Matthew Cerillo, 17, a senior at Monroe Woodbury High School and a Scout from Troop 440, is planning his Eagle Scout project. The Eagle Scout Service Project is the opportunity for a Scout to demonstrate leadership of others while performing a project for the benefit of any religious institution, any school, or his community. Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America program.

For Cerillo’s Eagle Project, he plans to erect a Peace Pole at Pine Tree Elementary School. A Peace Pole is a 8-foot wooden pole that has the word “peace” on it in different languages. Around the Pole he plans on putting 5 benches and creating a walkway from the Pole to the garden in the back of the school. Quite the undertaking.

The project is not only going to take time and hard work but money. So in order to raise the funds necessary, Cerillo is going to be holding a $5 Car wash on Sept. 22 at Freeman’s Auto & Tire at 419 Route 17M in Monroe from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

So if your ride needs a little wash, take it to Cerillo at his car wash and help him get to his goal of obtaining his Eagle Scout status.
