SUCCASUNNA — A construction worker who fell 30 feet through an opening in the roof of a building at the Ledgewood Commons mall survived but suffered serious injuries, according to a police spokesperson.

Jennifer Dillard, a spokeswoman for the Roxbury Police Department, identified the worker as 40-year-old Jesus Manuel Garcia, a Bronx resident. She said Monday only that he was alive.

Roxbury police were dispatched to the mall shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday after the man, a demolition-construction company worker, had suffered cardiac arrest, Dillard said. Responders learned Garcia was on the roof with others when he fell 30 feet to the ground through an opening.

He was airlifted from the scene with “major trauma,” Dillard said. She did not specify which building Garcia fell from.

The federal Occupation Safety and Health Administration, which investigates workplace incidents, was notified.

Garcia did not have identification on him, Dillard said.

The mall is being converted into a 470,000-square-foot open-air mall which will be called the Shops at Ledgewood Commons, with some stores remaining open and others undergoing extensive renovation.
