SUSSEX BOROUGH — Responding to speculation that swirled among Facebook users in the borough Sunday morning, State Police are reporting that no stabbing incident took place in the area over the weekend.

Trooper Alejandro Goez told the New Jersey Herald Monday afternoon that reports of an individual stabbed and an ensuing search for a suspect were untrue. He did not provide any additional details.

The situation appeared to stem from a Facebook post in which a Sussex Borough resident said a helicopter was hovering over the area, while another reported seeing several state troopers in the borough. In response to the original post, a user posted information from a news alert app claiming State Police were searching for a male in regards to an aggravated assault with a knife.
