Students at Plattekill Elementary School participated in an interactive public art project where they discussed how wings can lift you off the ground through moments, people and experiences that bring them great joy. Students learned color tinting and shading then were asked to design their feathers and write on them what lifts them and brings them happiness. Some wrote “family” while others wrote “friends,” “love,” and video games. The idea for the project came from a discussion that principal Monica Hasbrouck had with art teacher, Kristin Phillips about ways to promote community in the school. The artwork is on the walls in the fifth and sixth grade wing. Hasbrouck plans on keeping the artwork up the rest of the school year. [Photo provided]
