HACKETTSTOWN — Police say a Sparta man was drunk when he crashed his car into another while making a left-hand turn in the township Monday night.

The incident occurred shortly before 8:20 p.m. near the intersection of Route 46 and Center Street.

An investigation determined that C. Scott Caruso, 56, of Sparta, was driving a 2015 Toyota, and after stopping at the stop sign, proceeded to make a left-hand turn onto Route 46 when his vehicle struck a 2019 Audi, driven by Jason Apwah, 30, of Mount Olive, who was traveling east, according to the Hackettstown police.

No injuries were reported.

Police determined that Caruso was under the influence and charged him with driving while intoxicated and careless driving. He was released pending a court hearing.
