HARDYSTON - A two-alarm fire at an unoccupied home on Wheatsworth Road early Saturday morning remains under investigation.


According to Hardyston Township Fire Department Chief Robert Washer, at 4:42 a.m. on Saturday, the Hardyston Township Police Department dispatched the fire department to a fire in the area of Scott Road, with police determining on their arrival it was a working structure fire in a vacant, two-story house behind Ballyowen Golf Club on Wheatsworth Road.


After transmitting a second alarm, Washer said Hamburg, Franklin, McAfee and Pochuck Valley Fire Departments responded to the scene, along with the Glenwood Pochuck Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Saint Clare’s Emergency Medical Services.


The fire, which was controlled in less than two hours, Washer said, remains under investigation by the Hardyston Police, Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Sussex County Fire Marshal.
