TOWN OF WALLKILL - A local fisherman found a body in the Wallkill River on Wednesday.
State police said they responded to a report at around 2:50 p.m. of a man found dead in the river near the Midway Road overpass.
The fisherman was near the area below the Route 17 overpass, a common place for people to fish, according to Troop F Public Information Officer Steven Nevel. He thought he had caught a log when he made the discovery
Preliminary investigation does not show signs of foul play, Nevel said. The man found has not been identified.
“We have an idea, but we don’t know if that’s who it is yet,” Nevel said by phone Wednesday.
An autopsy is scheduled with the Orange County Morgue for Thursday.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
