HACKETTSTOWN — A Vernon woman was charged with violating an executive order signed by the governor after she became locked in a closed park Friday afternoon, police said.
According to the Hackettstown Police Department, officers responded to Riverfront Park at approximately 1:15 p.m. Friday after receiving a call from Jeannine Svard, 72.
Police determined that Svard drove around a barricade with signage advising her of the park’s closure and entered the park, where there are additional signs indicating the area is closed to the public. Svard was unable to exit the park because of an electronic gate that came down on the roadway, forcing her to call police to help her get out.
Svard was charged with violating executive order 107 for being in a closed park, a disorderly persons offense. The order signed last month by Gov. Phil Murphy orders all New Jersey residents to remain at home, with limited exceptions, in an attempt to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.
