The National Weather Service has extended a flood watch to cover our region through Friday as a strong frontal system is expected to bring heavy rains to the area.
In Sullivan County, one and a half to three inches of rain are forecast through Friday afternoon, which could lead to significant rises on rivers, with minor flooding of main-stem rivers. High rainfall rates into Thursday night could also cause localized flash flooding of small streams and poor drainage areas.
Ulster County could see rainfall totals of two to four inches through Friday evening, with significant rises on area rivers and minor flooding of main-stem rivers possible. The Esopus Creek is the one most likely to exceed minor flood stage, according to NWS.
In Orange, bands of heavy rain are possible into Friday morning.
Flooding of small streams and in urban or poor drainage areas is possible throughout the region.
