Editor:

I am not surprised that Trump supporters, such as in the letter to the editor published in the 2/18/20 NJH, do not find the use of “B___ S___” and other obscenities spoken by Trump in public offensive as the “Trumpers” have been conditioned to accept a lower standard of decency. Yes, we have heard these and other offensive words “uttered in hallowed newsrooms, print or electronic media” as well as in other places in our lives.

Should we respect our political and religious leaders to use obscene language to “tell it like it is” publicly? Should teachers in school speak that way in classrooms to our children? I would not support such a politician, would leave that church and would challenge that teacher.

Trump has inspired the decline of decency. Supporters revel in his “telling it like it is” approach speaking obscenities, words of hate, division and juvenile name-calling. Dividing Americans will never make America great.

Trump has also conned some to accept any lies he speaks. Trump has spoken over 16,000 documented lies and misstatements as president. With each day the lying count adds up.

But all is forgiven since the economy is good for now. The economy has been improving for almost eleven years. How many years has Trump been president? Do the math and some history to figure out who started this improving economy. It wasn’t Trump!

I support the need for a “Free Press” to inform and educate. Media outlets such as Fox News that panders to a president that feels Fox media is his own personal information outlet and sometimes bemoans how dare that outlet isn’t in total agreement with Trump. That would be the dream information outlet for Joseph Goebbels.

A “Free Press” can inform and prevent the path to a dictatorship.
