Editor:

As we are seeing with our nation’s delayed and chaotic response to coronavirus, our government desperately needs to invest in research, strategies and programs to improve health outcomes. Instead, our president and some of our legislators continue to push for an increased military budget and continue to make noise about a war with Iran, all while our suffering grows.

Congress must use its power of the purse to reprioritize our federal budget and allocate more of our tax dollars toward strengthening our health system.

Also they must reconfigure our priorities by reclaiming constitutional authority over war decisions. Both Houses have upcoming votes on war powers legislation and also on legislation to withhold funding for an unconstitutional war with Iran, and to repeal outdated 2001 and 2002 Authorizations for Use of Military Force.

Call your legislators about voting to reconfigure our priorities toward less military spending and more emphasis on wellness!
