Behind Door Number 1: The prioritizing and funding of a US medical system that works for citizens of all ages while protecting and preparing for future medical needs at home and globally.

Behind Door Number 2: A well-padded 2020 US Dept. of Defense budget of 738 billion taxpayer dollars and additional Pentagon request for $10.4 billion more directed away from the next economic stimulus bill and put toward more military equipment.

How we plan for, as well as respond to, global illness is the responsibility of our Congress and president. Each year we spend hundreds of billions of dollars on military equipment to “keep us safe” while ignoring fundamental medical care, equipment and supplies for citizens.

This is simply priority setting at its worst. Day by day, as the pandemic continues to unfold, we are increasingly made aware of how misguided priorities, often first catering to the military–industrial complex, are playing out for our veterans, struggling communities, businesses and elderly.

From the safety of our homes we are now able to call or email elected officials and tell them to select Door 1. Tell them that reallocating 2020 monies from military spending into building a US Health care system is what can and will keep us all safe, healthy and alive.
