Lenape Valley, Jefferson and Sussex Tech improve to 2-0, while Vernon gets first victory and Newton is edged by Pequannock

STANHOPE -- Lenape Valley exploded for a 27-6 third quarter to turn a close game into one with a wide margin as the Patriots moved to 2-0 on the season with a 41-18 home win against Hackettstown.


In the third quarter, Gavin Coles ran for scores of 16 and 20 yards, Trey Stasse added another 11-yard rushing touchdown and Justin Pederson recovered a fumble in the end zone. Nick Molinari ran for two touchdowns in the first half for Lenape Valley, which led 14-6 at halftime.


Nick Gagliardi ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries and also hit Zay Willis for a 80-yard touchdown pass. Jason Kuehner made an astounding 21 tackles on defense for the Tigers.

Jefferson 26, High Point 22


JEFFERSON -- Michael Gould was outstanding on the ground for Jefferson with 18 carries for 150 yards and three touchdowns as the Falcons held off High Point in a 26-22 victory at home on Friday.


Quarterback Matthew Johnson completed 17-of-30 passes for 218 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions for Jefferson. David Hanna caught eight passes for 110 yards while Caleb Rippey was not too far behind with six catches for 82 yards.


Jefferson Felter led the defense with 12 tackles while Andrew Weber recorded an interception.

Pequannock 25, Newton 22


PEQUANNOCK -- Sophomore quarterback Jack Young had a breakout game for Newton going 12-for 19 for 208 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions to go along with 16 carries for 114 yards, but it was not enough to get a win as the Braves dropped to 0-2 with a 25-22 loss to Pequannock.


After a tough first game against Lenape Valley, the Braves were competitive throughout against a good Pequannock team. In the end, Konnor Dora drilled a game-winning 36-yard field goal as time expired.


Aaron Fantasia led Newton in receiving with six catches for 108 yards. Dylan Bailey had three catches for 55 yards and a touchdown while Ryan Pappas caught two balls for 30 yards and a touchdown.


Bailey and Fantasia also recorded interceptions for the Braves.

FORT LEE -- Sussex Tech had another huge first quarter with 28 points on its way to a 40-13 win over Fort Lee on Friday.


Bo Maroney was spectacular for the second week in a row with eight carries for 119 yards and four touchdowns. He was one of three Mustangs players with over 100 rushing yards as Brendan Hall (101) and Austin Durham (100) each hit the century mark.


Frank Cunha led the team with nine tackles defensively as Sussex Tech is now 2-0 on the year.

Vernon 28, West Milford 25


WEST MILFORD -- Aden Moskovitz could not be stopped for Vernon as he went off for seven catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns and added an interception on defense in its 28-25 road win at West Milford on Friday night.


Moskovitz caught a big 85-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Vikings. Zack Weschak completed 13-of-22 passes for 227 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Collin Andriola carried 22 times on the ground for 76 yards and two touchdowns.


The win gives the Vikings as many has they had the last two years combined as they continue to show improvement this year.
