Pope John 50, Wayne Hills 46


WAYNE — The Pope John boys basketball built a big lead and was able to withstand a big second-half push to take down Wayne Hills, 50-46, on Monday at Wayne Hills High School.


The Lions jumped in front 31-17 at the break and used that double-digit advantage to hold on despite being outscored 19-6 in the third quarter.


Jack Sakowski had 14 points and eight assists to lead Pope John, which improved to 4-16.


Nurell Miranda added 13 points, Mike Atta had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Nate Pluviose added 11 points for the Lions.


Andre Macarenes scored a team-high 11 points for Wayne Hills.

STANHOPE — The Patriots could not dig out of a big first-half deficit and fell, 62-48, to Parsippany Hills on Monday at Lenape Valley High School.


A 35-20 halftime deficit was too much for Lenape Valley to overcome as it dropped to 4-17.


Ishaan Bhatt and Jordan Thompson each scored a game-high 15 points for the Vikings (4-16).


JJ Worthington scored 13 points for the Patriots.
