MOUNT OLIVE — After all was said and done at the Region 2 tournament at Mount Olive High School, Jefferson’s Austin Jack and Lenape Valley’s Daniel Haws were the only two out of nine qualifiers to punch their tickets to Atlantic City.

At 132 pounds, Jack fell to Bergen Catholic’s Dylan Cedeno by technical fall in the semifinals, so he needed one win in the wrestleback round to clinch his spot at the state wrestling championships.

The Falcons junior earned an injury default win over Emerson-Park Ridge’s Louden Mazzeo midway through the third period to earn his shot at third place. Jack then earned third by claiming a 5-0 decision win over Mountain Lakes’ Charlie Sabino.

Meanwhile, after losing to Teaneck’s George Rivera in the quarterfinals at 120 pounds on Friday, Haws worked his way all the way back to punch at ticket to Atlantic City.

In the first round of wrestlebacks, he earned a 5-3 decision win over Paramus Catholic’s William Matistic. In the blood round, Haws earned a pin eight seconds from the final buzzer in the third period against Montville’s Karl Monaco.

Haws went on to drop a 8-6 decision against Mount Olive’s David Ryerson and settled for fourth place.

Jefferson’s Michael Gould took fifth at 160 pounds.
