HALEDON — The fifth-seeded Newton girls basketball team got strong performances across the board as it walloped fourth-seeded Manchester Regional, 65-37, in the North 1, Group 2 quarterfinals on Thursday night on the road.


Maddie Gore tallied a game-high 27 points, Amy Fehr pulled down 20 rebounds and Olivia Buckley chipped in 17 points for the Braves in the win.


Taylor Squiers also finished in double figures with 10 points for Newton, which will now take on top-seeded Jefferson in the sectional semifinals.


Jasmine McDuffie scored a team-high 18 points for the Falcons (23-5).


The Braves outscored Manchester Regional by 10 points in each of the first and second quarters in Thursday’s win.

JEFFERSON — The top-seeded Falcons used their smothering defense to roll to a 43-21 win over ninth-seeded Demarest on Thursday at Jefferson High School.


Jefferson (22-6) limited the Norsemen to six points or less across all four quarters.


Meanwhile, Patricia Orlandoni and Ivana Tisma each scored 10 points for the Falcons, who will now take on Newton in the semifinals.


Liz Argenziano scored a team-high 12 points for Demarest (14-14).

HACKETTSTOWN — Tyler Kirkpatrick scored 21 points, including three 3-pointers, to boost top-seeded Hackettstown to a 69-55 victory over eighth-seeded West Side on Thursday at Hackettstown High School.


Jalen Baptiste added 14 points and Shawn Morgan finished with 13 for the Tigers (23-5), who will now face fifth-seeded Ridgefield Park in the sectional semifinals on Saturday.


The loss dropped West Side to 9-16 to finish the season.

MONTVALE — The seventh-seeded Braves fell behind early and could never recover in a 66-46 loss to second-seeded Pascack Hills in the quarterfinals of the North 1, Group 2 tournament on Thursday night at Pascack Hills High School.


Brian McKeown tallied 20 points, including four 3-pointers, for Newton, but it was not enough as it closed the season with a 17-10 record.


The Braves were outscored 39-12 in the opening half.


The Cowboys received 20 points from Aidan Kehoe in the win. They will now take on third-seeded Jefferson in the semifinals.
